Garrison Keillor Reads Mary Oliver

Garrison Keillor Reads Mary Oliver

A poem about birds that closes:

And just like that, like a simple

neighborhood event, a miracle is

taking place.

A promise: each time Garrison Keillor reads Mary Oliver, I will post it -- there may be no more beautiful fusion of word and voice.

I've been listening to The Writer's Almanac since I was in high school. No early morning trip to school with my Dad was complete without that beautiful 5-minute segment on NPR. The piano music that begins it, the little touches of history he shares, the closing poem -- to this day, there's no more pleasant soundtrack to my mornings.
